Welcome to Redding Youth Soccer League!

I wanted to take a moment and introduce the amazing programs we offer!

Redding Youth Soccer League: We are thrilled to introduce the next generation of soccer players to the beautiful game through our recreation program. Our league welcomes players of all skill levels and aims to provide a fun and supportive environment for children to learn and grow in their soccer abilities. We believe in fostering a love for the sport while also emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development.

North State Soccer: For those players who are looking to take their game to the next level, we are excited to offer our competitive program, North State Soccer. This program is designed for those who are seeking a more challenging and competitive soccer experience. Our dedicated coaches and staff are committed to helping players reach their full potential and achieve success on and off the field. North State Soccer provides a platform for players to develop their skills, compete at a higher level, and pursue their soccer aspirations.

North State Referees Association: In addition to our player-focused programs, we are also proud to offer the North State Referees Association. This program is dedicated to training referees from the under 8 through high school levels. We recognize the important role that referees play in the game of soccer, and we are committed to providing comprehensive training and support for referees to ensure fair and enjoyable matches for all participants. The North State Referees Association is an essential part of our commitment to promoting the integrity and sportsmanship of the game.

As we kick off another exciting season, we invite all members of our community to join us in supporting and celebrating the growth of soccer in Redding. Whether you are a player, parent, coach, referee, or fan, there is a place for you in our soccer family. We look forward to a season filled with teamwork, skill development, and, most importantly, fun!

About Us.

The Redding Youth Soccer League (RYSL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the physical, mental, and emotional growth of Redding's youth through soccer. Their recreational program emphasizes fun and inclusivity, ensuring every child receives playing time in a supportive environment. Certified and licensed coaches focus on teaching the game in an enjoyable manner, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship over winning at all costs.

For players seeking a more competitive experience, RYSL offers advanced leagues aimed at those aspiring to higher levels of play, such as college soccer or national teams. Overall, RYSL strives to instill a lifelong passion for soccer while developing character and community among its participants.

The Redding Youth Soccer League (RYSL) Bylaws serve as the foundational governing document for the league, outlining its purpose, structure, and operational guidelines. They detail the roles and responsibilities of board members, procedures for meetings and elections, membership requirements, and the rules that ensure transparency, fairness, and consistency in all league operations.

The Redding Youth Soccer League (RYSL) Policies and Procedures Manual provides clear, detailed guidelines for the league's operations, ensuring consistency and accountability in all activities. It covers essential topics such as player registration, team formation, coaching expectations, game-day protocols, risk management, and disciplinary actions.

The North State Soccer (NSS) Policies and Procedures Manual outlines the operational standards and expectations for the club, ensuring a consistent and professional approach to player development and club activities. It includes guidelines on player selection, training programs, competition standards, coach responsibilities, parent expectations, and risk management protocols.

Meet The Board

The Redding Youth Soccer League (RYSL) Board of Directors is a dedicated group of volunteers responsible for overseeing the league’s operations, ensuring its mission to promote youth soccer is fulfilled. The board provides strategic leadership, manages policies, and supports coaches, players, and families to create a safe, inclusive, and fun soccer experience for all.

Alek Pinnell

Meet Alek Pinnell – a true champion of the game! As a 3rd generation President of RYSL, Alek brings unmatched passion and experience from his roles as a player, coach, fan, and referee. A former State-level referee with a history of officiating at some of the nation’s premier tournaments, he upholds the highest standards of integrity and skill on and off the field. Alek’s dedication embodies the spirit of soccer, inspiring both players and fans to love the game.

Donovan Geyer

Meet Donovan Geyer – a dedicated and dynamic leader in our community! Serving as the Board's Secretary and Risk Management Director, Donovan brings both passion and expertise to his role. As a proud father of four, he is deeply committed to fostering a positive and thriving environment for all players, including his own kids and their friends. Donovan is a certified referee who actively promotes fair play and sportsmanship on the field.

Sabrina Niew

Meet Sabrina – a compassionate and dedicated individual who values honesty and integrity in all she does. As a mother of three and a devoted caregiver, Sabrina places family at the heart of her life, offering unwavering support to those around her with kindness and empathy. Her active role as a parent liaison and member of the parent club at her children’s school reflects her commitment to fostering a strong, connected community where everyone feels supported and included.

VP of Operations

Michael Caranci

Meet Michael Caranci – a seasoned soccer player and coach with deep roots in the sport. As a youth, Michael played for several Bay Area clubs, as well as De La Salle High School and the University of Puget Sound. His coaching journey began in 2015 with RYSL before transitioning to competitive soccer with NSS in 2018. Since 2019, Michael has also served as the head coach at St. Joseph School. Currently, he leads the Kaos 2010 team and was elected VP of Operations for Redding Soccer in 2023, bringing his experience and passion to every role he takes on.

Josh Vandiver

Meet Josh Vandiver – a proud Redding resident with deep roots in the community. A graduate of Shasta High and Simpson University, Josh brings a wealth of experience as a retired Master Sergeant from the Marines and a dedicated City of Redding employee. Known for embracing challenges and crafting innovative solutions, Josh is passionate about helping young athletes grow, develop their skills, and compete at their highest potential, inspiring them to reach new heights.

Brian Gibson

Meet Brian Gibson – a lifelong Redding resident with a deep passion for soccer. Growing up, Brian played in Redding Recreation leagues through U-19, Shasta High School, and Shasta College. He spent years refereeing games across the state and has been coaching his three sons in RYSL since 2015. Dedicated to fostering growth and a love for the game, Brian is committed to ensuring Redding soccer continues to positively impact the lives of young players in our community.

Jed Wilburn

Meet Jed Wilburn – a dedicated chiropractor, proud husband, and father of three. With years of coaching experience from U6 to U19, Jed has instilled a love for the game while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. Bringing a unique perspective as both a coach and healthcare professional, Jed is committed to supporting player development and contributing to the growth and success of the youth soccer community.

Francisco Basurto

Meet Francisco Basurto, our new Director of Coaching! With USSF E and D licenses and a B.A. in Exercise Science from Concordia University, Francisco brings extensive knowledge and experience to our program. A former collegiate player at Kaskaskia College and Calcio Express Club, he has also coached at Kaskaskia College, Southwestern Oregon Community College, and Simpson University. Francisco is passionate about developing players and helping them elevate their game.
